Council has voted to seek community feedback on the proposal to rename a street in Newport and name three unnamed laneways in Seaforth, Collaroy and Avalon.
Currently Walworth Court in Newport is causing confusion with Walworth Avenue with deliveries and general wayfinding. A proposal to rename it to Syncarpia Court is now being sought.
In addition, we’re proposed to name three laneways in Seaforth, Avalon and Collaroy.
The three laneways have no residential or business addresses associated with them, although do provide vehicle access to adjacent property.
Whilst the laneways are used to access various business premises for deliveries, the lack of street names hinders finding them.
The unnamed laneway in Seaforth off Kempbridge Avenue is proposed to be names Fig Tree Lane, while the one in Avalon off Bellevue Ave be named Spotted Gum Lane and the other in Collaroy off Alexander Street is to be called Hibiscus Lane.
When naming/renaming a street, Council is required to follow the guidelines of the Geographical Names Board of NSW (GNB) Property Addressing Policies, Guidelines and Standards and Council’s Policy for the Naming of our Reserves, Facilities and Roads.
