We’re tackling fishing waste at 6 more favourite fishing spots on the Northern Beaches, making it easy to dispose of your unwanted tackle and raise awareness to do the right thing.
Fishing-related litter has been identified as an environmental threat across NSW. Discarded fishing tackle, including hooks and fishing line, may injure or entangle birds and aquatic animals. Using the bins helps keep your favourite fishing spots clean and safe for visitors, children, dogs and wildlife.
This week, Northern Beaches Council will install tangle bins at popular fishing locations.

The new tangle bins are being provided in collaboration with OzFish and NSW Environment Protection Authority
The tangle bins will be monitored for usage and audited to see the types of fishing waste being captured and stopped from contaminating our local environment.
The fishing waste collected from the bins will be recycled, where possible, through the OzFish Tackle Loop program.
This project is a NSW Environment Protection Authority Waste and Sustainable Materials Strategy initiative, funded from the waste levy.
