North Steyne Surf Club is an iconic building perched on the sands at Manly serving the community since 1907, but this building needs a little TLC.
The club, one of the first in Australia, was born out of necessity when three people drowned in the surf in 1907. Locals formed North Steyne SLSC, and no lives have been lost during patrol hours in over 100 years since.
Given the number of people who unfortunately drown on Australian beaches each year, this is a statistic that North Steyne SLSC members are justifiably proud of.
We’re inviting the community to share their thoughts on potential future improvements for the surf club so its members can continue their incredible commitment to serving the community and the building can also serve as a community space.
Council’s aim is to ensure the club continues to thrive as a vital surf life-saving institution and public space that meets the diverse needs of our entire community, while balancing the significant constraints of the site including its heritage significance and coastal hazards threats.
To find out more visit the project page, leave your thoughts and take part in the two-minute survey. Feedback closes on Sunday 29 October 2023.
You can also chat to Council staff at a drop-in session at North Steyne Surf Club on Wednesday 11 October from 2–4pm and Saturday 21 October from 9–11am.
