As the world comes together to celebrate World Rivers Day on Sunday 22 September, it’s the perfect time to reflect on the importance of your local waterways—particularly Pittwater which is part of the Hawkesbury-Nepean River system.
These rivers not only provide essential resources but also serve as vital ecosystems and cherished recreational spaces for community and visitors.
This World Rivers Day, Northern Beaches Council is encouraging residents to learn more about the Hawkesbury-Nepean River System Coastal Management Program. This joint initiative between 6 Sydney councils and the NSW Government, is designed to protect and manage our waterways, ensuring their long-term health and sustainability.
The project focuses on understanding the environmental, social, and economic pressures facing the Hawkesbury-Nepean River system, including Pittwater, and aims to develop a comprehensive plan that balances ecological protection with human activity.
Whether it’s safeguarding habitats, addressing water quality concerns, or maintaining recreational opportunities, community input is crucial to shaping the future of these iconic waterways.
Get involved by coming along to one of our pop-up sessions and chat to our staff or share your insights and feedback.
