Northern Beaches Council has established a fund offering small grants to help conserve our privately-owned heritage buildings.
Council’s General Manager, Mark Ferguson said grants are now open to all owners of heritage-listed buildings on the Northern Beaches.
“Grants were previously only available in the former Manly Local Government Area,” Mr Ferguson said.
“The grant pool has also been doubled as Council has secured increased funding through the NSW Heritage office of $10,000 and has matched it with $10,000 of its own funds.”
Mr Ferguson encouraged owners of heritage-listed properties to preserve the heritage values of their properties for future generations.
“The work to maintain these buildings is often much more costly than a modern building,” he said.
“For example, specialist tradespeople are frequently required, or some buildings have even been built without foundations and need to be underpinned to be preserved, which is a huge job.
“We’d rather help preserve these heritage buildings than let them slowly deteriorate,” Mr Ferguson said.
Grants of $200 to $3000 may be offered for up to 50 per cent of heritage works project costs, provided they are approved and completed before applying.
Grants are now open to all owners of heritage-listed buildings on the Northern Beaches, who have works approved and completed, and their application submitted, by 5pm, Friday 31 March 2017.
