BENEATH THE WAVES (Ghost Stories), 2023
It was a great pleasure to bring to life this bright colourful mural for Manly and the Northern Beaches community. Working closely with locals and the council, we picked a few urban legends and ghost stories to focus on. The Shelley Beach sunken motorcycle is at the centre of it, where a heavily seaweeded and barnacled motorcycle sits parked on the Cabbage Tree Aquatic Reserve, with a blooming burnout of bubbles! I’ve also brought to life some stories like the infamous Manly Fun Pier shark-head, references to the hundreds of ghost stories at the Quarantine Station and the heavy boots of a long lost pirate captain.
I have used a mix of bright colours, and a bold friendly style, to make light of this colourful history. To use darkness and fear as an inspiration for something positive and warming. I love how this mural has come together. I met so many amazing people while painting it and I am proud to have worked on this for you. Enjoy!
Artist Bio
Sindy Sinn is an Inner West based illustrator dude, mural artist, heavy metal fan, silly bugger and bottomless pit of stories. Equal parts bold and deranged, his designs have been used across the world to bring smiles (and beers) to people’s faces. You may have seen his stuff across Young Henrys and every t-shirt in Newtown. He’s a big fat legend and if you see him, give him a high-five.
