Wellman Reserve, also know as Fitzpatrick Reserve is a large bushland area located in the suburb of Frenchs Forest. The reserve covers a total of 15 hectares and contains high conservation value due to its proximity to Garigal National Park and high quality bushland.
Vegetation
The reserve supports two bushland areas, divided by a large water pipe and maintenance fire/trail. The following vegetation communities have been mapped on site; Bloodwood-Scribbly Gum Woodland, Peppermint-Angophora Forest, Sandstone heath and Coastal Upland Swamp a threatened ecological community listed under the NSW Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016.
Dominant canopy species include Sydney Red Gum (Angophora costata) and Scribbly Gum (Eucalyptus haematoma) with shrub and mid story containing Banksia ericifolia, gahnia sieberiana, hakea teretifolia and epacris microphylla.
Fauna
The reserve contains a high conservation value and valuable habitat for a range of threatened and non-threatened animals. Two threatened species have been recorded on site including the Powerful Owl (Ninox strenua) and Giant Burrowing Frog (Heleioporus australiacus).
