Northern Beaches Council skate park at Mona Vale will come to life with the installation of a new public art work created by Brookvale-based artist Miguel Gonzalez, who is originally from Venezuela.
Council General Manager Mark Ferguson said a dedicated working group made up of skaters, engineers and youth development staff collaborated with the artist to design the work.
“When we opened the Mona Vale skate park last September it was always our intention to bring it to life.
“The art work installed on the side of the skate ramp celebrates the park as being an inclusive place and the little boy depicted in a cape represents possibilities - in the skate park it feels possible to fly.
“This is an outstanding facility, which I am sure our local skating community will feel a strong attachment to for years to come,” Mr Ferguson said.
Miguel Gonzalez is a well-known artist whose work is featured at other public venues in Sydney and across Australia.
The community is invited to join in the public launch of the new artwork on Thursday 9 March from 3pm to 5pm and enjoy live music and a BBQ at Mona Vale Skate Park
