The community and the environment would be the winners, following the announcement that the NSW Government will fund a feasibility study into the provision of wastewater services to Scotland Island.
Northern Beaches Council resolved to pursue this partnership with the State Government and seek the funding last year and welcomes today’s announcement.
Council Administrator Dick Persson AM said the move had been made possible because of the resources and expertise of the stronger Council.
“Northern Beaches Council has a stronger voice and that gives us the opportunity to progress a number of major initiatives such as this one.
“Upgrading wastewater services on Scotland Island would provide major, long term public and environmental health benefits and greatly enhance the quality of life for the 800 residents of Scotland Island, other locals and the hundreds of thousands of visitors to Pittwater.
“Antiquated septic tanks which can be environmentally unfriendly and involve high maintenance could be replaced by a modern, efficient system of waste removal.
“On behalf of the Northern Beaches community I want to express our gratitude to the State Government and the local member Mr Rob Stokes for not just listening but for recognising the need for this initiative,” Mr Persson said.
Council will now progress the proposal by developing a feasibility study for the provision of wastewater services to Scotland Island.
Northern Beaches Council has also provided funding to the Scotland Island Residents Association for a modern, automated emergency water booking system.
