The Northern Beaches community is being invited to an update on parking demand management planning for Pittwater Park and surrounding areas in Palm Beach.

Northern Beaches Council Deputy General Manager Ben Taylor said parking in Pittwater Park and surrounding areas was in high demand during peak periods and Council is currently working with the community to develop a parking demand management strategy for the area.

"Palm Beach is a popular destination and attracts many visitors. The Palm Beach Ferry Wharf services the offshore community at Mackerel Beach and Coasters Retreat, as well as day trippers, holiday makers and commuters.

"The key objectives of this project include prioritising the parking needs of nearby shops and businesses, ensuring parking availability for off-shore residents and identifying potential parking opportunities for visitors."

"We also want to ensure appropriate turnover of parking spaces, ensure boats and trailers cannot park long-term and provide parking spaces for the mobility impaired," Mr Taylor said.

"We’ve received very helpful feedback from the community in December as well as assessing parking occupancy and turnover data.

"Now we would like to report back with some of what we’ve learned and to gain initial feedback on strategies to better manage parking in the area."

There will be two community meetings at the Palm Beach RSL on Tuesday 21 February at 3.30-4.30pm and 6-7pm.

Register your attendance by visiting the Your Say section of Council’s website or by email to michelle.carter@northernbeaches.nsw.gov.au

Following the meetings, Council will review feedback and produce a draft strategy later this year.

As an interim measure to help provide more short-term, high turnover parking spaces, Council last year introduced changes to 17 parking spaces in Pittwater Park.
