Northern Beaches Council has released the draft Mona Vale Place Plan setting out a 10-year vision for a vibrant town centre based on conversations with more than 10,000 people in the community.
"This vision for Mona Vale is the result of listening to our community's ideas and aspirations and is designed to activate a village with spaces that cater for the people using it now and into the future", said Mark Ferguson, Northern Beaches Council General Manager.
"In addition to planning for people-centric places where they shop, work and spend time together, we want Mona Vale to reach its full potential for economic development.
One of the key elements of the Plan is the potential for a new 'heart' in Mona Vale including a new civic square with potential arts and knowledge hubs.
"The new heart of Mona Vale would see Village Park redefined as a community focussed leisure space where people can meet, enjoy the green space or watch a live performance.
Council engaged consultants to test the feasibility of the community's aspirations in areas such as housing affordability, parking and traffic, the outcomes of which have also been included in the draft plan.
The draft Mona Vale Place Plan is on public exhibition at Council's Mona Vale Customer Service Centre and online at pittwater.nsw.gov.au/yoursay for community feedback until 13 November. During the exhibition period Council staff will be available to discuss the plan with the community on selected dates as well as at Mona Vale Market Day on 6 November.
"Ongoing community participation and feedback on the draft Mona Vale Place Plan is central to its development and implementation and we encourage residents be involved so the process is a true reflection of the community vision," Mr Ferguson said.
Council received a Highly Commended award for its outstanding community consultation around this draft plan in the 2016 RH Dougherty Local Government Awards for 'Reporting to Community'.
