In ongoing efforts to protect the precious environment of the Northern Beaches, Council staff blitzed local building sites as part of the ‘Get the Site Right’ campaign on Thursday 20 March 2025.

In addition to regular monitoring of sites, the 'Get the Site Right' campaign seeks to prevent pollution by highlighting the importance of securing building materials and educating site managers on best-practice erosion and sediment control.

Northern Beaches Mayor Sue Heins emphasised that the 'Get the Site Right' campaign is one component of Council’s ongoing commitment to protect the environment.

“Our compliance inspections are not just a one-day effort, we conduct these inspections throughout the year to ensure our bushland and waterways remain clean and healthy. It is through these continuous efforts that we can make a real difference.”

Council has participated in the Get the Site Right campaign since 2019, and this year of the 71 visited 67% had their sites set up correctly – an increase of 10% from the last blitz. While some warnings were issued only one had a significant issue that Council will be following up.

“We are committed to working with developers and builders to raise awareness, prevent pollution and improve compliance,” Mayor Heins said.

The 'Get the Site Right' campaign is a joint initiative involving councils across Sydney and parts of NSW, including Northern Beaches Council. Community members are encouraged to report pollution incidents by contacting Northern Beaches Council on 1300 434 434 or by calling the Environment Line on 131 555.
