The Northern Beaches will benefit from a total of 64 grants to the value of $370,000 as part of Council’s annual grant program supporting new community initiatives, arts, sports infrastructure and activities. 

Northern Beaches Mayor Sue Heins said the grants program has a significant positive impact on our local community. 

“This week we announce the recipients of 4 categories of grants, with each requiring recipients to meet a strict set of criteria. 

“The grants aim to drive innovation, support local businesses, protect the environment and empower organisations and individuals that play a vital role in supporting others and creating a connected and vibrant local area.” 

This year there were four grant categories and their allocated funds are:

Community Grants 
A total funding pool of $200,000 was available for two grant programs under this stream - Arts and Creativity and Community Development. 

Forty-five applicants were successful with funding of up to $10,000 per project. 

Successful applicants for Community Development grants include programs that reduce social isolation, increase beach safety for diverse communities, support survivors of abuse, provide art programs for multicultural communities, support people disability and single mothers. 

Successful applicants in the Arts and Creativity category will provide community art workshops, art therapy, an arts and writers festival, a cultural event and a pilot music program.

Sports and Infrastructure Grants 
A total funding pool of $100,000 will be used to make improvements to community sport and recreation facilities on Council managed land. 

Five successful projects were allocated funding between $10,000 and $35,000 including Harbord United Junior Rugby League Football Club to install a new drainage system at Harbord Park, Bareena Park Tennis Club to install new lighting, Belrose Terrey Hills Raiders Soccer Club to upgrade the kitchen and canteen in the clubhouse, Allambie Beacon Hill United Football Club to install a new storage shed and Newport Bowling Club to upgrade the female bathrooms.

Environmental Grants 
Environmental Grants program provide grants for community organisations to support the objectives in the Environment and Climate Change Strategy. 

Eleven successful projects including bush regeneration projects, monthly beach clean ups, a swamp wallaby monitoring program, energy efficient lighting upgrades, a water monitoring program, and the installation of native bees at a local community garden received funding.  

These projects receive up to $5,000 each and all projects need to be completed by 31 December 2025. View the full list of recipients. 

Placemaking Grants 
A total of $17,000 has been allocated to individuals and organisations to deliver new and renewed activities to drive vibrancy in our local centres and stimulate the local economy. 

Five successful projects include Loss and Learning in the Freshwater Pocket Park, Festive Freshie, Killarney Heights Village Shops Improvement Group, Newport Spring into Summer Celebration and Elanora Heights Village Christmas Markets.

All grants were assessed against a criteria by separate assessment panels made up of experts in each area convened by both Council staff and external assessors.
