With over 65s now needing to register on the My Aged Care website to receive a range of services, Council is partnering with seniors’ educator Avalon Computer Pals to host a hands-on workshop.

What can be a simple online task for some seniors can seem daunting to others so training on how to access the My Aged Care portal will be provided. An aged care assessment expert will also explain the recent changes to age care funding and how it impacts older people.

Northern Beaches Council A/General Manager Planning, Place & Community Melissa Messina said the session aligns with Council’s initiatives to ensure inclusivity amongst the community.

“We are encouraging seniors, their families and carers to come along and learn how they can easily and effectively access essential services, like help around the home,” Ms Messina said.

Gregory Ross from Avalon Computer Pals said the program is about empowering seniors to embrace new technologies by learning new skills from people their own age.

“We’re here to look after seniors who are having difficulties with technology and to make sure they don’t feel as if they are being left behind,” Mr Ross said.

The workshop is being held at Newport Community Centre on Tuesday 18 July from 1.30-3.30pm.It is advised to bring your own digital device as limited computers are available.
