Northern Beaches Council is proud to announce the launch of a new library membership category.    

From 11 February 2025, members of the Northern Beaches community experiencing homelessness, or between accommodation can apply for Library Light membership. Proof of address is not required for Library Light, enabling everyone to access to the entire breadth of library services.

Northern Beaches Mayor Sue Heins expressed her support for the new membership.

"Traditionally, individuals without a fixed address have faced challenges in obtaining a library card. The Library Light membership is a crucial step towards inclusivity and accessibility.

“It allows individuals in our community who are experiencing challenging circumstances to use the library with dignity and stay connected with their loved ones and the outside world.

“Libraries are safe, welcoming spaces and having a library membership can make life easier with access to information and valuable resources," Mayor Heins said.

Light members can borrow up to 5 items and gain access to thousands of eBooks and other e-Resources. Membership is and can be used at any of the 6 library locations across the Northern Beaches.
