Glen Street Theatre enters exciting new performance territory with its short-season presentation of indy-writer Tommy Bradson’s stunning new gothic-vaudeville show ‘Nosferatutu - or Bleeding at the Ballet’.
‘Nosferatutu’ is just the kind of silly, crazy, madcap, completely uplifting, blood-soaked live show we so desperately need in these dark, disturbing times!
Littered with outrageous genre in-jokes, stunning costumes, and live on-stage music that skips from David Bowie to Daryl Braithwaite to Tina Turner, ‘Nosferatutu’ is the tale of an ancient vampire Kevin (played by Bradson) who is totally obsessed with ballet.
Described by Bradson as “Bram Stoker's Dracula meets Weekend at Bernie's and Black Swan”, this fast-paced production first swings its spotlight on a gorgeous, ambitious young dancer (Josh Thomson), who is given the chance to fulfil his life-long dream of performing in a one-man ‘Swan Lake’ production - when he falls unexpectedly dead on stage!
Kevin - whose passion for ballet and blood has carried him away completely - has waited a very, very, very long time for just such an opportunity. So, he seizes it with both gore-soaked hands!
Kevin and a theatre-usher (Sheridan Harbridge) contrive to put on a show, their own ‘Swan Lake’ made up of half-remembered dance sequences and music ranging from Tchaikovsky to Tina Turner, all of which is played live by a chamber trio (led with great sophistication by musical director Steven Kreamer).
Bradson and Harbridge met in Edinburgh, where both had shows in The Fringe: Harbridge in her cabaret ‘Mrs Bang: A Series of Seductions in 55 Minutes’, and Bradson in his 2010 debut show ‘When the Sex is Gone’.
