Residents on the Northern Beaches are being urged to get in early and register a site for Clean Up Australia Day. The event is being held on Sunday 5 March from 8am to 1pm.
Northern Beaches Council Administrator Dick Persson said with the summer holidays now over it is a good time to take a look around your neighbourhood and identify sites where rubbish has accumulated.
“From our pristine beaches, coastal reserves, parks and bushland we have some of the most beautiful urban flora and fauna in Sydney.
“I encourage all of our community to nominate your favourite location or a rubbish ‘hotspot’ and get your family, friends, neighbours and colleagues to join your Clean Up Australia Day team,” Mr Persson said.
There are three Clean Up Australia Day events:
- Business Clean Up Day Tuesday 28 February
- School Clean Up Day Friday 3 March
- Community Clean Up Day Sunday 5 March
You can register your site online.
In 2016, more than 682,000 volunteers removed an estimated 14,000 tonnes of rubbish from 6,890 sites across Australia. Councils support Clean Up Australia Day by removing the bagged rubbish.
