A chance to sample life in the Australian outback is being offered to Northern Beaches’ young people.
Northern Beaches Council is looking for six teens (three boys and three girls) aged 14-19 who live on or are connected to the Northern Beaches to visit Brewarrina from 18-24 April as part of the Sister City Youth Exchange program.
Brewarrina is a town in north-west NSW and the young people will be helping to promote friendships between beach and bush communities.
Council Administrator Dick Persson AM said this was the first time the opportunity was open to young people right across the Northern Beaches.
“Seeing such a different way of life and environment is a true eye opener for our teens,” Mr Persson said.
“I highly recommend Northern Beaches young people make the most of this opportunity and apply.”
Youth Ambassador for 2016, Rupert Canning, said the visit was unforgettable.
“Our trip to “Bre” was among the most memorable experiences of my life thus far. The people I came to know will hopefully be friends long into the future.”
The visit to Brewarrina also coincides with National Youth Week Celebrations.
Some of the activities planned include visiting Gundabooka National Park, having a go at sheep shearing, visiting an outback radio station, seeing first-hand the world-famous opal mines at Lightning Ridge, learning about the world famous 40,000-year-old Brewarrina fish traps and interacting with the local community.
