Northern Beaches Council has recently unveiled a special memorial at Little Manly Point, dedicated to celebrating the life and remarkable community contributions of the late David Hay MBE.

This new granite memorial stands as a lasting tribute to Mr Hay’s decades of service, civic leadership, and deep commitment to our community.

A lifelong Manly resident, Mr Hay devoted much of his life to local government and public service. First elected to Manly Council in 1959, he went on to serve 6 terms as Mayor and 8 terms as Deputy Mayor, later representing Manly in the NSW Parliament from 1984 until 1991. Mr Hay was also the NSW Minister for Local Government and Minister for Planning from 1988-1991.

Through his leadership, he helped shape many local initiatives that continue to enrich our community life.

Among his many achievements, Mr Hay was instrumental in the remediation and beautification of Little Manly Point - a location chosen for the memorial to symbolise his vision for public spaces that bring people together.

The unveiling was attended by his wife Jean, family, friends, and local residents, alongside the Mayor and Councillors, marking a heartfelt celebration of his enduring legacy.

Council acknowledges Mr Hay’s dedication to our community. His story will remain an important part of Northern Beaches history, inspiring future generations to serve with the same spirit of care and connection.
