Person in front of the laptop at home

Sally from Manly Vale explains how she and her husband went through the process of electrifying their home by installing an induction cooker, solar panels and buying an electric vehicle. They are now looking at taking advantage of a government rebate to install a battery. Their energy bill is now a third of what it used to be. Sally explains how useful it was to discuss the process with Council's Energy & Solar Expert Advisory Service which offers free 1:1 independent advice. She also said that they visited Council's Net Zero Expo and she discovered that Northern Beaches Council also runs regular Solar & Energy Roadshows where you can speak face to face with knowledgeable staff about energy savings.

I'm Sally and I'm in Manly Vale and we've just been through the process of electrifying our home.

I saw that there was an Energy and Solar Expert Advisory Service so I contacted them and we had a 1:1 conversation and then halfway through my husband visited the Net Zero Expo.

0:23
And I understand there's also monthly Roadshows so people can go in person and actually have conversations with somebody face to face.

The first thing we did, the gas hob was just about to die.

0:33
So we looked at replacing that and went with induction.

0:36
And then a couple of months ago, we went over with solar.

0:40
And the last step for us has been getting electric vehicle, an EV, which we now trickle charge during the day, which is wonderful.

0:48
And since we've had it, we haven't had to pay to charge it once.

0:52
And we're using it the same as we used our old car and our bills.

0:55
It's a third of what our old power bill was.

0:58
So it's been a really good investment.

1:00
So probably next steps, take advantage of the battery rebate that's just been introduced.

1:05
And we're looking at battery because we generate a lot more power at the moment and we will do as the summer comes on.

1:10
And if we have a home battery, we can save that and then use it in the evenings. I'd really recommend people would use the Energy and Solar Expert Advisory Service to speak to somebody at the beginning and in the middle.

1:22
And we haven't finished.

1:23
We're going to be speaking to Council again about our home battery.

1:26
They're talking about this all day, every day to people.

1:28
They have that currency of information so that it's a really, really useful service.
