This clump forming grass grows to 1m when in flower.
It is named for its seed heads, which look like barbed wire.
It is a hardy grass suitable for nutrient poor areas, which grows in most soil types and prefers full sun to light shade.
Its leaves have a lemon-scented smell when crushed.
Native grasses provide a permanent ground cover, reducing soil erosion, increasing water filtration and providing habitat and food.
