The Northern Beaches Coast Walk, stretching from Manly to Palm Beach, connects and celebrates some of Sydney’s most iconic beaches and surf breaks, ocean rock pools, aquatic reserves, surf lifesaving clubs, headlands, lagoons, archaeological sites and places of significant local heritage.

This spectacular coastline is a unique and memorable walking experience for visitors and locals alike and we are developing creative opportunities to explore our beach culture, local history, the spectacular natural environment and Aboriginal heritage along the Coast Walk through a public art trail.

As part of the Coast Walk Public Art Strategic Plan, artists engaged with the local Aboriginal community and key stakeholders to develop designs based on rock engravings of the Elvina Track and other sites in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park.

As part of the Coast Walk Public Art Strategic Plan, Leesa Knights's artwork explores and fuses elements of art, culture, imagination and nature. As one of the Northern Beaches leading environmental artists, Knights's works echo the beauty and delicacy of our planet.

Oyster Shells - Middens, Frances Belle Parker

Narrabeen Park Parade , North Narrabeen
Council commissioned Frances Belle Parker and Urban Art Projects to create 'Oyster Shells- Middens' as part of the Aboriginal Art & Storytelling Project, the first major project of the Coast Walk Public Art Strategic Plan. This installation includes three large cast aluminium oyster shells arranged with smaller shells in clusters along the coast walk to represent middens.

Signal Fire, mili mili with Nicole Monks

25 Lumsdaine Drive , Freshwater
As part of the Coast Walk Public Art Strategic Plan, Council commissioned First Nations Public Art team mili mili to create Signal Fire at McKillop Park at Freshwater’s headland. "Signal fires have been lit on headlands up and down the East Coast by Aboriginal people for tens of thousands of years as part of a sophisticated system of communication" Nicole Monks, mili mili.

Whale Songs, Frances Belle Parker

The stories on the plaques refer to Aboriginal stories of 'singing-in' of the whales along the coastline of the Northern Beaches.
