Toongari Reserve is located in Avalon surrounded by residential properties that front onto Avalon Parade and Central Road. The reserve is mainly level and occupies 1.42 hectares including Avalon Kindergarten and an area of wetland. The reserve used to be part of a wetland area that linked the creekline to the coastal lagoon system behind Avalon Beach and discharging into Careel Bay.
Plants
The vegetation is Swamp Mahogany Forest dominated by Swamp Mahogany (Eucalyptus robusta).
Animals
Toongari Reserve's winter flowering Swamp Mahoganies, rainforest plants and wetland patches encourage animal diversity and year-round food availability.
The reserve was previously important habitat for koalas. Despite the loss of koalas in the area these trees are still important in maintaining the endangered population of Squirrel Gliders as well as a variety of small birds.
