Several animals are significant to the Northern Beaches although they may not be listed as a threatened species. Some are however, also vulnerable to extinction. Find out more about some of our locally significant animals in the profiles below.
Creating a Backyard Habitat provides tips on enhancing the habitat value of your backyard, to help protect our native animals.
Criteria for local significance include:
- Known to be in local decline and/or not found in former ranges of the Sydney area, e.g. the Long-Nosed Bandicoot.
- Rarely recorded outside of National Parks e.g. the Feather-tailed Glider.
- The Northern Beaches is the limit of their range e.g. the Noisy Pitta.
