We’ve made some temporary changes to The Strand, Dee Why as part of the NSW Governments Streets as Shared Spaces program. The changes are a trial and aim to create safer and enjoyable spaces for people and to provide greater pedestrian and bike access.
An extension of the Dee Why trial for a further 12-months was supported at the Council Meeting held on Tuesday 26 April 2022 (Attachment Booklet – Transport & Assets Item 13.6).
During this time, we will continue to review the changes implemented through the trial and improve pedestrian safety in the Dee Why area through the construction of a pedestrian crossing in Clyde Road and two pedestrian crossings in Avon Road.
Overview of changes
- increased space for pedestrians through a wider footpath area
- increased space for local cafes and restaurant for extended seating areas as the being to open following the recent Covid-19 restrictions
- seating and plants
- one-way north bound traffic flow
- 30kph speed limit in The Strand
- a two-way cycleway
- changes to the south-bound bus service and stop (view map)
- changing the Clyde Road pedestrian refuge to a pedestrian crossing.
Funding
This project is being funded through the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment's Streets as Shared Spaces to deliver temporary demonstration and pilot projects to support the community and test ideas for more permanent improvements to local streets, paths and public spaces.
