We’ve made some temporary changes to The Strand, Dee Why as part of the NSW Governments Streets as Shared Spaces program. The changes are a trial and aim to create safer and enjoyable spaces for people and to provide greater pedestrian and bike access.

An extension of the Dee Why trial for a further 12-months was supported at the Council Meeting held on Tuesday 26 April 2022 (Attachment Booklet – Transport & Assets Item 13.6).

During this time, we will continue to review the changes implemented through the trial and improve pedestrian safety in the Dee Why area through the construction of a pedestrian crossing in Clyde Road and two pedestrian crossings in Avon Road.

Overview of changes

  • increased space for pedestrians through a wider footpath area
  • increased space for local cafes and restaurant for extended seating areas as the being to open following the recent Covid-19 restrictions
  • seating and plants
  • one-way north bound traffic flow
  • 30kph speed limit in The Strand
  • a two-way cycleway
  • changes to the south-bound bus service and stop (view map)
  • changing the Clyde Road pedestrian refuge to a pedestrian crossing.
