Events Grants 2022/23
Council agreed to the following funding and fee waivers through the Events Grants Program 2022/23, to support organisations to hold community events on the Northern Beaches.

Rotary Club of Manly Inc | Manly Scenic Fun Run and Walk The Manly Scenic Fun Run and Walk is a community event. This year as for the previous ten years, we offer a 10k, 5k and 2k run/walk but we have made an improvement in the course with a diversion for the 10k runners through the Q Station at North Head. This will provide an additional challenge for the runners through Manly's stunning world class scenery. The event starts and finishes at South Steyne at 7am. | Fee waivers up to $984 |
Bilgolah Surf Life Saving Club | Pittwater Swim Series Pittwater Swim Series (PSS) is a series of ocean swims held predominantly in January on several Northern Beaches. The swims' distances vary from 500m to 2.5km, with all getting record attendance in the past few years (when we were cleared to go ahead). The swims are held on Sundays in January (in order) - Newport, Bilgola, Mona Vale, Palm to Whale, then Avalon in early March. Each swim has its own drawcard whether it be the number of entrants (2500 swimmers - Palm to Whale), overseas swimmers interest (Newport) or the celebration of opening a new Surf Club, like Mona Vale this year | $5,000 three-year sponsorship |
Frenchs Forest Anglican Church | Carols in the Park 2022 Carols in the Park is a free event with live music for all ages, including a puppet theatre as well as traditional Christmas Carols. The Australian Girls' Choir is invited to perform, as they did in 2020. Plan to provide a free Jumping Castle and Kindifarm and other activities focussed on kids' entertainment. This event is held at Ararat Reserve and in 2022 local businesses and restaurants are invited to be involved in the event. | $2,500 one-year sponsorship |
The Link Church | Carols by the Lake The event consists of pre-entertainment by a local artist followed by traditional Christmas carols, the visit of Santa a crowd favourite and the conclusion of a spectacular fireworks display over Narrabeen Lake. Manly Warringah BMX Club
| 2022 ACT/NSW BMX State Series Round 8 Manly Warringah BMX Club will be hosting the ACT/NSW BMX State Series Round 8. The event attracts over 500 competitors plus their accompanying families and spectators from across Greater Sydney, the NSW Regions and the ACT for a weekend of BMX Racing. Practice and Coaching Sessions are held on the Saturday and racing is held on the Sunday. The event caters for ages ranging from 2 years old to 60+ years old, and attracts professional BMX athletes to the 'Superclass' categories | $4,000 one-year sponsorship

Warringah Rugby Club | Sevens by the Sea Seven-aside Rugby Tournament feature competitions for open men and women, under 20's men, local 'subdistricts' teams and school-age boys and girls. The event is to be held at Pittwater Rugby Park. Full community involvement in what we hope to establish as Sydney's premier 7's tournament, fully sanctioned by NSW Rugby. Other activities envisaged will be an open markets in conjunction with the local Beaches Markets operators and family activities and activations from various local businesses. The tournament will extend over the three days of the weekend 17-19 February 2023, and will also feature 15-aside games involving the NSW Waratahs and invitation teams, North Harbour and South Harbour, featuring the top emerging rugby talent from all of the Sydney Shute Shield clubs. | $5,000 one-year sponsorship + Fee waivers up to $4,000 |
Rotary Club of Upper Northern Beaches | Rotary Art Show Art show event held over a weekend with an opening on Friday evening through to a closing on Sunday afternoon. The show will be held at the Mona Vale Community Hall as per last year's event. The event was well received last year by both the art community and the public. Supporting local art and artists, local charities and engaging the community. | $500 one- year sponsorship + Fee waivers up to $500 |
Zonta Club of Northern Beaches Inc. | Australia Day Breakfast Newport Beach Breakfast on Australia Day including amusement rides for children, breakfast, face painting, thong throwing, flag raising and music from Northern Beaches Concert Band. Commencing at 7am to 11.30am at Bert Payne Reserve, Newport Beach. | $6,000 grant Fee waivers up to $400 |
Manly Warringah Football Association | MWFA Women's World Cup The Manly Warringah Football Association (MWFA) will be running a female only mini World Cup tournament throughout the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup to use the spotlight of the world's biggest female sporting tournament to grow participation for young Northern Beaches girls as players, referees and coaches. Matches will be hosted for U8 and U11 girls on the same evenings that the Matildas are due to play to bring our football community together. The tournament will also be completely organised by girls/females with female referees, female coaches and female administrators. The event is to take place at Cromer Park. | $5,000 one-year sponsorship |
The Link Church | Eggs by the Lake Eggs by the Lake is a huge Easter egg hunt with over 10,000 Easter eggs and is the premier Easter egg hunt on the Northern Beaches. The afternoon is providing an Easter event for families on the Northern Beaches that is free to attend and to celebrate all things Easter. The afternoon consists of old school games including egg and spoon races, sack races, jumping castle, music and some Easter treats. The event will take place at Lakeside Park, Narrabeen. | $2,500 one-year sponsorship + Fee waivers up to $500 |
Manly Theatre Group | Manly Festival of Short Plays The Festival will be held over two weekends in November, with two programs A and B. Program A will perform on the first Friday and the second Saturday, program B will be performed on the first Saturday and second Friday. The aim is the have five 10 minute plays to be performed on each occasion. The plays will have a very simple set-up with minimal staging and lighting requirements. The festival is to be held outdoors in Market Lane in the early evening for locals to enjoy the performances. There is no ticketing for this event, it is free to all who would like to spectate and support the actors and writers. | $2,000 one-year sponsorship + Fee waivers up to $800 |
Pipe Bands Austrlia Inc (NSW Branch) | Scottish Festival of Tartan Music and highland dancing weekend in a family friendly format. All age event with active players and dancers from 5 years old onwards. Celebration and observance of Scottish and Celtic cultural traditions of dance, music and ancestry. An attendance from multiple NSW based representatives of Scottish clan societies via the auspices of The Scottish Australian Heritage Society is expected. There will be approximately 40 pipe bands from Queensland, NSW, Victoria and South Australia and approximately 2000 people in kilts. The event is to be held at Pittwater Rugby Park, Warriewood. | $3,000 one-year sponsorship + Fee waivers up to $4,500 |
Coordimate Production Services Pty Ltd | The Saturday Swap Launch event for an initiative to make the world more sustainable. Local community members are invited to swap items in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere with live music. Categories will include clothing, books, kitchenware/small household appliances, kiddies corner. The launch event is to take place at Middle Harbour Reserve in April 2023. | $1,000 grant + Fee waivers up to $200 |
Scotland Island Residents Association | Scotland Island Spring Garden Festival and Weed Warriors This event aims to educate residents on the importance of the natural environment and includes talks, stalls, weed warriors (kids), workshops and a BBQ by the fire brigade. The event is to be held in Catherine Park on Scotland Island. | $500 grant + Fee waivers up to $200 |
Northern Beaches Buckets | BB3 First annual street-style basketball 3v3 competition for the youth of the Northern Beaches. School holiday winter Basketball event during the winter holidays. The event would see teams of 3 compete in 20 minute knockout rounds throughout the day whilst DJ/live music, food trucks and celebrity appearances are sidelined around the courts to watch and be involved in the street-style fun. | $2,000 grant + Fee waivers up to $400 |
The Organic Scarecrow | Artisan Good Food Fair Local neighbourhood event that welcomes everyone from the community into a vibrant and buzzing space within the lively Brookvale industrial hub. Encourage social interaction and wellbeing and celebrates the diverse heritage, culture and talent of Northern Beaches makers, musicians and artists. The family friendly all-weather Artisan Food Fair will operate from 3pm to 7pm at The Organic Scarecrow Warehouse, located at 45 Winbourne Rd Brookvale on Thursday September 15. | $1,000 one-year sponsorship + Fee waivers up to $285 |
Wayki Productions | Latin Lights Music Festival Latin Lights will showcase Latin music, which most of it has been written in Australia by Latin and Australian musicians. Latin food will also be provided. The event is due to take place at the Time and Tide in Dee Why, September 2022. | $2,000 one-year sponsorship |
Manly Branch of the Country Women's Association of NSW | Edible Exhibition Manly Country Women's Association celebrates 100 years in 2023. Planning to showcase the work of CWA by curating an Edible Exhibition of baked goods. It is welcome to home bakers, students of baking and professionals to be a part of the wonders of baking and creating. Bakers will nominate themselves and register for the event and be allocated to a year to represent. The event is to take place at St Matthew's Church, Manly in August 2023. | $2,000 grant + Fee waivers for up to $46 |
The Real Estate Analyst | Picnic in the Park - 50th Anniversary "The Dark Side of the Moon" A free four hour concert in Village Park, Mona Vale to celebrate the end of the summer season and the 50th anniversary of the release of the iconic album "The Dark Side of the Moon" performed at no charge by the Pittwater Offshore Community's "The Flaming Doghouse Showband" with offshore support act "Sky Juice" | $2,000 one-year sponsorship + Fee waivers for up to $1,100 |
Carols Afloat Community Choir | Carols AFLOAT 2022 Carols AFLOAT has been a community event since 2009. Will include performances of Christmas carols in two locations, Lovett Bay and Church Point. Relaunching the event for 2022. | $500 grant |
Studio Orsi | Northern Beaches Open The event is a series of architectural tours from exemplar architecture both from housing and public categories focusing on well designed, sustainable, adoptive reuse and socially conscious architecture in the Northern Beaches area. The event will happen in 5-6 continuous days, opening one building each day to a group of 15-20 people. Each building can be opened to 2-3 groups of visitors depending on the interest in one day. Align with the Sydney Architecture Festival run by the NSW architect registration board, which occurs yearly at the end of September/first week of October | $1,000 one-year sponsorship |
Zing Fresh | Culinary Curations Trial of two culinary curations dinners on the Northern Beaches in an outdoor location in Summer/Autumn 22-23. They are designed to deliver a unique and unforgettable culinary experience, bringing people together over a shared experience of incredible food and beverages, using produce and products of local businesses. Provide opportunities for homegrown, upcoming talent to perform, promote and capture the event. The Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever Northern Beaches | The Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever Northern Beaches People come together from all over the Northern Beaches dressed in red to recreate the Kate Bush video of Wuthering Heights in a dance performance. Day is used to raise awareness for the Women's Resilience Centre. Fun and free community event at Village Park, Mona Vale. | $500 grant + Fee waivers up to $150 |
Market Lane Live | Live and Local Live and Local will support local upcoming musicians by providing a stage to showcase their works every Sunday afternoon during April at Market Lane Live, Manly. Local budding musician and bands can apply to be included on the line up which will support up to 30 individual acts and bands across the month. | $4,000 one-year sponsorship |
Initiative Sport Pty Ltd | That's Not My Dog! The Festival That's Not My Dog! is Australia's funniest festival. It presents comedy in a unique format with groups of comedians working together on multiple stages over two days to tell hundreds of jokes and stories, delivering non-stop laughter for the audience. The event is hosted by iconic Australian entertainer, Shane Jacobson who is supported by 20 of Australia's funniest comedians. Each day concludes with a performance by one of Australia's leading rock 'n roll bands. | $25,000 one-year sponsorship (with option to extend up to three years upon successful acquittal) + Fee waivers up to $5,000 |
The Mito Foundation | The Bloody Long Walk (BLW) - Sydney North The Bloody Long Walk (BLW) - Sydney North is an annual health and fitness challenge delivered since 2013 and open to persons of all abilities including local residents of the Northern Beaches Council area. The BLW is a 35km walk through the picturesque coastline spanning from Governor Phillip Park in Palm Beach to the Manly Promenade with tremendous benefits for local businesses including restaurants, cafe and shops as it brings a significant number of visitors tot he Northern Beaches Council | $2,000 one-year sponsorship + Fee waivers up to $3,000 |
Football Australia | CommBank Pararoos vs USA International Match Series In February 2023, for just the second time in 22 years, the CommBank Pararoos, Australia's national men's football team for athletes with cerebral palsy, brain injury or stroke will host the USA Men's National team in a two-fixture affair at Cromer Park on the Northern Beaches. But this is bigger than football. This match will proudly invite children from all-abilities programs across the Northern Beaches to participate in the match-day activities, including as mascots, ball kids and flag bearers. This will be a major milestone as only the second time a senior Australian national team has embraced an inclusive approach, and we know it will not be the last. | $5,000 one-year sponsorship + Fee waivers up to $5,000 |
Dee Why Ice Picks Winter Swimming Club | 2023 Australian Winter Swimming Championships The Australian Winter Swimming Championships is an annual competitive swimming carnival held each September under the auspices of the Winter Swimming Association of Australia and under the rules of the world governing body FINA. The Championships attract around 800 swimmers from winter swimming clubs across the country. While the swimming events are held on a Sunday, the carnival that is the Championships starts with a welcome barbecue on Friday, a fun 'splash' swim on Saturday and concludes with a gala presentation evening on Sunday evening following the competitive events. | $2,000 grant + Fee waivers up to $5,500 |
RSL LifeCare Limited | Anzac Day Dawn Service at the War Vets Anzac Day commemorative dawn service for the residents and their families, staff and their families, and the Narrabeen/Collaroy Plateau community. The commemorative service includes traditional elements such as the reading of hymns, readings, Anzac address, catafalque guard, wreath laying, anthems and the act of remembrance, The Ode, Last Post, one-minutes silence and Reveille. | $2,000 grant |
SNPHN LTD trading as Sydney North Health Network | Healthy, Active and Connected Expo Healthy, Active and Connected Expo will be an interactive and experiential expo for people with dementia, their carers, families and the community. The half day expo is designed to encourage participant involvement and will consist of information stands manned by a wide range of Northern Beaches support services, activity providers and businesses to assist participants to explore and discuss "healthy, active and connected" options. | $1,000 grant |
Ocean Rockpool Tour | Ocean Rockpool Tour 2023 A weekend community charity event aimed at inspiring Northern Beaches resident and beyond to celebrate the iconic Ocean Rockpools from Manly to Palm Beach by swimming activities that are linked to raising the awareness of mental health issues and offering support and wellbeing to community members in need through fundraising for nominated charities. | Fee waivers up to $2,500 |
Modus Brewing | Northern Beaches Bands and Brews A daytime celebration of Northern Beaches live music and breweries. Involving up and coming bands from the Northern Beaches as well as the flourishing brewing industry of the Northern Beaches. Aboriginal Support Group Manly Warringah Pittwater | Sorry Day 2023 Event to acknowledge Sorry Day in 2023. The grant will fund Indigenous dancers, a digeridoo player, singers, a kid's painting station, a BBQ, a guest speaker, the cost of hall hire and advertising. | $1,200 grant + fee waivers up to $100 |
Liberte Skate | Skate Under the Stars A glittering, magical, pop-up Roller Disco for all ages. Bringing the community together, outdoors, under the stars and moon in a disco garden filled with fairy lights, music, art, dancing, roller skating and good vibes! Aqua Rugby Australia | Aqua Rugby Festival - November 2022 Hosted in the pristine Manly Cove, NSW - AQUA RUGBY is a 3-day floating rugby festival, with full-contact matches play atop of a 30 x 30 metre pontoon where players have to dive off the floating pitch into the water to score a try, and can be crash-tackled off the side of the pontoon. A diverse mix of professional and amateur teams from all around Australia are invited to play for the Aqua Rugby trophy. The floating festival is packed with current and former rugby starts from the men's and women's formats, with a range of rugby league marquee imports to show their skills also.With the tournament being extended to 3 days this year we will see over 3 players from all over the country descend on Manly for 3 days of sport and entertainment. Aqua Rugby is free for the public to enjoy from the Manly Cove shoreline with planned kids activities on the beaches as well as an Ingenia Holidays kids zone to play in. There will also be a range of local vendors given the opportunity to showcase their food, brands and more on the shoreline. Dee Why RSL Club | Dee Why RSL Club's large-scale ANZAC Day Dawn Service at Dee Why Beach has been attended by over 10,000 people each year. Those involved have included school children, returned servicemen and women and their families, local politicians and Northern Beaches residents.
