Wakehurst Public School Bushcare was originally established by a group of teachers and enthusiastic parents who were wishing to regenerate the remnant Duffy’s Forest Endangered Ecological Community located within the grounds.

Originally the site was overgrown with turf grasses and woody weeds and had lost its shrub and ground cover layer. Many exotic and weed species had either been planted on site or had infested the area from surrounding properties.

Throughout the years the group has revegetated the site and encouraged the native seed bank to respond. The majority of the soils were intact so the group has noted incredible native regrowth on site.

The group meets every 3rd Wednesday in school terms from 1pm to 3pm (in school holidays the group meets in bushland along the edge of Lionel Watts Park) and would love some new members! Find out more
