Bushcare group stories

The Northern Beaches has over 50 Bushcare sites where groups usually meet monthly for 2 to 3 hours to conserve and rehabilitate the bushland.

Each month we will showcase one of our hardworking Bushcare Groups.

We will learn when the group was first established and the challenges and successes they have had along the way with their regeneration work.

In the spotlight this month

Coopers Point Bushcare Group

Coopers Point Bushcare Group was formed in 2000, responding to a request from some dedicated locals wanting to rid the area of weeds.

Long Reef Bushcare Group (Reefcare)

Long Reef Bushcare (Reefcare) formed in 1992, after gaining a grant to provide an information brochure on the flora and fauna on the headland and aquatic reserve.

Carrington Bushcare Group

This group has been operating for over 30 years at this stunning South Curl Curl boardwalk.

Mermaid Pools Bushcare Group

This group has restored this site which boasts a beautiful waterfall and creek which leads to Manly Lagoon.

Bangalley Head Bushcare Group

This group has completed some incredible work at this beautiful Avalon headland.

North Harbour Bushcare Group

North Harbour Bushcare Group was formally started in about 1992.

Anzac Avenue Bushcare Group

Anzac Avenue Bushcare Group is located at the bottom of a creek line corridor which runs from Collaroy Plateau to Pittwater Road.

Bligh Park Bushcare Group

A compact bushland reserve surrounded by residential properties, a play area and walking track. The group has worked hard over the years to control weeds and garden escapees on site including Tradescantia, Ehrharta, Acetosa and other weedy grasses.
