What goes in your yellow bin
Keep it loose, unbag before you bin!
- Plastic and metal containers from the kitchen, bathroom and laundry (no plastic or paper bags)
- Glass bottles and jars
- Aerosols - empty and undamaged (no need to remove spray nozzle)
- Aluminium foil - mould into a tennis ball-size ball
- Biscuit trays - clear
- Cans - steel and aluminium
- Cartons - including fresh milk, juices and other dairy products
- Fruit punnets
- Meat trays (no styrofoam or black plastic)
Tips
- Containers should be cleanish (no one likes the smell of rancid milk or sticky jam residue)
- Empty containers of any liquids before placing into the bin
- Remove lids from plastic liquid containers, squash air out and put the lid on to fit more in your bin
- No batteries or butane: they can cause fires and damage
Bin it Red instead
- Long life/Tetra Pak cartons
- Single-use coffee cups and lids
- Soft scrunchable plastics such as plastic bags, bread, rice, pasta bags and cling wrap
- Drinking glasses, broken glass, windows and mirrors, ceramics (please wrap in paper or cardboard for safety reasons)
- White glass
- Styrofoam trays
- Food scraps
- Furniture or toys
Dispose elsewhere
- Some long life drink cartons eg poppers can go to Return and Earn
- Batteries – take to a B-Cycle drop off location near you
- Cans and bottles - Return and Earn
- Butane – take to a Chemical CleanOut
- Damaged or half full aerosols - Chemical CleanOut
- Paint and chemicals - Chemical CleanOut
